Shop claims it’s “aftermarket” but it kinda looks to me like a factory wheel from a different car. It’s 16” and currently installed on my friend’s 2008 Scion xB.

Since it’s not original to the car the guys at the shop are like, “welp, guess you gotta replace all 4” and obviously he doesn’t want to to that.

Edit- kinja claimed this didn’t go through, and also ate the image.

Tr ying again...

I have not had a chance yet  to look at the wheel off the car.

So, so close. It’s missing the little pips between the lugs.

05-12 Avalon has a very similar design but the spokes are more sculpted. My guess would be it’s an imitation of this design by a company like Sport Edition.

I’m confused as to why the wheel needs to be replaced and/or why all four need to be replaced? Especially if your friend doesn’t care if they are a 100% match.

It may be this aftermarket, or similar one:  https://www.carid.com/replikaz/16-replica-7-spokes-silver-factory-alloy-wheel-mpn-aly69495u20n.html?singleid=1120643793&url=1662899

Car was just fixed after having that corner crunched pretty good. The body shop first claimed the wheel was damaged and needed to be replaced, then claimed it was fine and released the car. A couple hours after picking the car up the tire went flat. Could be total coincidence, could be that the rim actually is damaged. When they thought the rim was damaged the body shop told him it’s an aftermarket wheel, they can’t replace it because they don’t know what it is, and insurance won’t pay for a new set of wheels so they just won’t touch it.

Car is back in the body shop now having the wheel and tire looked at again, and if the wheel is indeed damaged I was hoping he’d be able to tell them how to obtain a replacement so insurance will cover it.

Got it, that makes sense. I think the wheel is an aftermarket copy of an OEM. There’s something about the lack of detail and flatness of the paint that doesn’t quite look stock.

Why not simply replace the wheel with a similar sized one based off the tire’s sizing? The car  should literally come with all the tools to replace it. A valuable skill for broke people and stranded people, and they can buy a new wheel and tire anywhere.

I understand after reading further it’s an insurance thing, best of luck!

Is the wheel unrepairable?  If you can’t figure out what it is, a wheel repair shop may be able to fix it.  They can do some pretty crazy repairs.
